Prof. H.S. Srivastava:-

Prof. Hari Shankar Srivastava had an outstanding academic record and passed all his examinations in Ist Division. He did his graduation and post graduation from Gorakhpur University Gorakhpur. (At present: Dean Dayal Upadhyay Gorakhpur University, Gorakhpur) and thereafter went to Ontario, Canada under Commonwealth fellowship from where he did M.Sc (Plant Biochemistry) chiefessays.net in 1972 at Mc. Master University, Hamilton in the field of nitrate assimilation under the guidance of Prof. Ann Oaks and obtained a Ph.D degree in 1974 from University of British Columbia on “Responses of plants to elevated NOx” under the guidance of Prof. Peter A. Jollif. He was a frequent visitor to University of Guelph, Canada on a Canadian fellowship, where he was associated with the group of Prof. D.P. Ormrod.
He joined the Department of Botany, University of Gorakhpur as lecturer in 1965 just after completing his M.Sc and remained there till 1977 (except from 1970-1974 when he was on study leave to Canada). He joined the faculty of Life Sciences, Devi Ahilya University, Indore (M.P) as Reader and stayed there till 1984. Therafter he joined Department of Biosciences, Maharshi Dayanand University, Rohtak (Haryana) as Professor on 1st January, 1985 for a very short period and moved to Department of Plant Sciences, MJP Rohilkhand University, Bareilly (U.P.), in 1987, where he worked as Professor and Head till his demise in 2001.
He published about 110 research papers in renowned international journals of the field, and contributed four books, Two Authored and two edited. He had completed nine research projects funded from UGC, DST, CSIR, UPCST etc and had guided 18 Ph.D students, many of them are working in various institutions of science learning and research on senior positions and contributing good science in their field. He had also visited U.K and Japan in various collaborative programmes. For the outstanding contribution, he was awarded fellow of National Academy of Science Allahabad, Indian Society of Plant Physiology, New Delhi and Academy of Environmental Biology,Lucknow.
He was conferred with J.J. Chinnoy Gold Medal and Scientist of the Year Gold Medal in 1996 and 1998 respectively. Professor H.S. Srivastava was the first Editor-in- Chief of PMBP which was started by his untiring efforts in 1995 (www.springer.com/journal/12298). This journal has now entered in to 22nd year of quaternary publication and has earned Thompson Reuter (ISI) Impact factor of 1.351 recently.He will always be remembered as an outstanding and much respected Plant Physiologist and Biochemist of the world. His major contributions in understanding Nitrate and Ammonia assimilation in plants is highly cited by the peers in the field. His untimely demise has created an unfilled void. He is always remembered by his teachers, friend, colleagues, students, faculty, members and relatives and all others who know him as a visionary teacher, noted scientist and a great human being.
